Yara solutions help you breathe more freely
Nitrogen Oxides (NOx) and Sulphur Oxides (SOx) are two types of emissions that significantly increase the risk of asthma. They are created when burning fossil fuels in industrial plants, motor vehicles and ships. Yara’s environmental solutions team has developed air-cleansing technologies that reduce the NOx and SOx emissions and help improve air quality worldwide.
NOx emissions are formed during the combustion of fossil fuels. Adding ammonia will cause a chemical reaction, transforming the harmful NOx emissions into harmless nitrogen and water vapor. Depending on the technology used, NOx emissions can be reduced by up to 99 percent.
Last year, Yara helped its customers cleanse a total of 1.1 million tons of NOx emissions, which is the size of the total emissions in France. Our aim is to increase that number to 1.3 million tons this year.
SOx emissions are emitted by sea-going vessels – shipping is the main source of man-made emissions of SOx emissions, which also cause acid rain. Yara’s scrubber technology for ships cleans the harmful exhaust gas, reducing SOx emissions by up to 99 percent. The scrubber uses sea water to neutralize SOx molecules.
