Michael Schlaug

Vice President, Yara Netherlands

Michael Schlaug is VP Yara Netherlands and Yara Country Legal Responsible for The Netherlands.

Michael has a strong business orientation and received his Dipl.-Ing. degree in Process Engineering from the Technical University of Aachen in 1994.

Michael joined Norsk Hydro in May 1995 and held various engineering and project management positions covering the fields of plant operation, applied research, technology licensing, Renewable Energies and aluminum remelt. As part of these activities he was stationed at various locations in Europe and had to do extensive travelling.

In 2006 Michael moved into a new role within the central production organization of Yara International and became responsible for driving and coordinating productivity improvement initiatives and energy management in all Yara production facilities globally. As of 2009 he was also responsible for the technical coordination of Yara's ammonia production units with the objective to improve plant reliability, networking and sharing of best practices.

From Sep 2011 to Jan 2018 Michael was responsible for Yara's North American nitrogen-fertilizer production base and served as President & Plant Manager of Yara Belle Plaine Inc.

In 2018 Michael started as Managing Director & Plant Manager of Yara Sluiskil. The company in Sluiskil has Yara’s (and Europe’s) largest installed ammonia and nitrate fertilizer capacities and produces and sells nitrogen-containing fertilizers and chemicals for industrial applications worldwide.

At the end of 2023 Michael was appointed Vice President Yara Netherlands. He is now responsible for driving Yara’s business integration efforts and energy transition ambitions in the Netherlands.
