Yara operates in an international environment heavily influenced by global trends and challenges. The company, realizing the impact these trends have on Yara’s business and stakeholders, has identified four “shaping issues” that can help Yara address these global challenges.
Yara chose its shaping issues based on its own global operations, core business and knowledge. They are: Energy Supply, Climate Change, Food Security and Health Concerns. These issues are of crucial strategic importance to Yara, both in the context of corporate citizenship and sustainable business development. Involving risks as well as opportunities, they are indeed shaping Yara, the future of business and the face of society itself.
Yara’s shaping issues are key global issues, all high on the international agenda. Food security, for instance, remained one of the priority issues at the G8 Summit 2010, which took place in Canada’s Muskoka region, on June 25-26. As preparation for the G8 Summit 2010, Farming First, a global coalition of 131 organizations, has launched a guide reviewing all of the major global and regional food security initiatives currently in place. Yara is aware of the challenge of a growing world population and therefore supports the dissemination of this document, which can be found on Farming First´s website via the link on the right of the page. The challenge is to develop another energy future.

The challenge is to feed a growing world population.
The challenge is to safeguard human health.
