Nitrating acid, the most common reagent for production of nitrated organic molecules (fine chemicals), is a mixture of concentrated nitric acid and concentrated sulfuric acid.
Fine chemicals are used as building blocks or intermediates in production of specialty or functional chemicals, such as pharmaceuticals.
