Nomination process 2008The nomination process for the Yara Prize 2008 Yara Prize starts with invited nominators submitting written nominations to the Yara Foundation. The Yara Foundation Secretariat then assists the Prize Committee in screening and selecting candidates. The name of the 2008 Yara Prize Winner will be announced in June, 2008. The Yara Foundation Prize Committee chooses the Prizewinner by unanimous vote. The Committee has absolute authority and its decisions cannot be overruled or appealed. Who can nominate The Yara Prize was established as a direct response to UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan’s call in 2004 for a Green Revolution in Africa. It supports and highlights the efforts of those fighting to reverse poverty and hunger in Africa, in line with the UN Millennium Development Goals. Anyone who wants to promote contributions to a Green Revolution in Africa can nominate. Nomination Criteria The Yara Prize recognizes contributions that increase food productivity, security or availability through improvements in food systems,advancements in sustainable agriculture and development of local markets. The Yara Prize now enters its fourth year and is established as an Award that aims to honour the many facetted work done to combat hunger and poverty in Africa. So far, efforts at national policy level (2005), at grass roots level (2006) and in entrepreneurship/distribution(2007) have been recognized by the Prize Committee. Guidelines For Presenting Your Nominee To be eligible, a nomination must be submitted in writing, in English or French. Please follow the detailed guidelines in the Information for Nominators folder when preparing your nomination. In order to be considered by the Prize Committee, all nominations and supporting documentation must be received by March 31, 2008. All nominations are confidential and the identity of the nominator, or nominating organization, will be kept confident.
