For our operation

Yara is organized into three business segments Upstream, Downstream and Industrial with complimentary strengths and risk profiles. This reflects the way we do business and creates valuable benefits for ourselves, our partners, our stakeholders and wider society.

It means that, through Upstream and Downstream, we are actively involved in all stages of our business, from raw material and energy sourcing, though production, marketing and distribution to agronomic advice on the farm. Industrial develops applications for products beyond the agricultural sector.

This helps us achieve the operational and financial stability necessary to conduct business with a long-term perspective. And it is underpinned by a commitment to minimize our environmental impact from production to product use, meeting the principles of sustainability.

So, the combined efforts and knowledge of our three business segments allow us to attain the best balance between social, environmental and economic costs and benefits.

  • The UPSTREAM segment is the backbone of our production system, consisting of large-scale ammonia and fertilizer plants plus our ammonia trading and shipping business. It is committed to achieving low production costs, optimal production efficiency and energy consumption, and minimal emissions.

  • The DOWNSTREAM segment consists of our global network of fertilizer sales, marketing and distribution operations, backed by agronomic advice services. Striving to minimize our ecological footprint and help our customers achieve the optimal benefits from our products, it is committed to supporting sustainable farming systems.

  • The INDUSTRIAL segment utilizes ammonia and other co-products from fertilizer production to produce industrial nitrogen chemicals and technical nitrates, and to develop value-added products like environmental protection agents and food industry essentials. It is committed to extending its portfolio of products that safeguard the quality of our air, water and soil.
