Helium

Helium is made by distilling natural gas, which can consist of 9-10% helium. Afterwards, helium can be purified for a number of qualities and requirements.

Helium (He) is a colourless, tasteless, odourless, non-toxic and non-combustible gas.

Helium liquefies at –269º C at atmospheric pressure. It is widely used in the manufacturing industry, the educational sector and the hospital sector.

Typical uses:

  • Liquid helium for cooling magnets (MRI and NMR)
  • Carrier gas for laboratory analysis equipment
  • Protection gas for arc welding
  • Balloon gas
  • For deep-sea diving
