Argon

Argon is a small part of the atmospheric air around us ( approx. 1%)

Argon, Ar, is a tasteless, colorless, odorless, nontoxic, nonflammable and noncorrosive gas, and forms no known chemical compounds.

At atmospheric pressure, Argon becomes a liquid at -186°C.

Argon is widely used primarily for its properties as an inert gas in applications covering a number of industries, including :

  • Metallurgical industry in production of Aluminium and Steel to replace air or nitrogen, creating an inert atmosphere
  • Mechanical industry for welding to create an inert gas  shield for protection against oxidation during welding, and as cutting gas in lasers
  • Laboratories as a carrier gas, to determine the composition of a sample through different analytical instruments
