Large economical benefits can be achieved by implementing a slag foaming practice in electric arc furnace (EAF) by the use of STEELCAL^TM.

Full scale testing of STEELCAL^TM (Ca(NO₃)₂(H₂O)₂) has given successful slag foaming, and slag volumes have increased 2-3 times.

By injecting carbon with STEELCAL^TM (STEELCAL^TM + C) reducing conditions have been created to reduce loss of chromium to the slag.
