Snow stationDry ice is broadly employed as a rapid and practical cooling medium for relatively contained volumes of products. When the volumes of product to be chilled are more considerable, or when a LIC tank is available at location, on-siteproduction of dry ice (in the form of snow) can become a convenient and economical alternative.
In-house production of snow is possible if the company has a storage tank and access to liquid carbon dioxide. These installations for in-house snow production are often appropriate in companies where for instance the refrigerating capacity has become too small. Placing dry ice on the top of the products further reduces the temperature and keeps it at that level until the products are to be used. The amount of dry ice snow required depends on the starting and final temperatures. Another area of use is where there is a need for rapid chilling of raw materials to be used in further processing. Here the snow is mixed directly with the products and thus contributes to the rapid chilling. Depending on the use, it is also possible to have an installation where the snow is automatically dosed onto the products or, if production takes place in trolleys, the snow can be used at different places according to requirements. |
