1940-1959
1946: Recovery The German Wehrmacht capitulated on 8 May 1945. Hydros managing director Bjarne Eriksen was in a German prison officially as an officer, but in reality as a political prisoner. Eriksen was anxious to return home and get back to work as soon as possible.
1947: A "new Rjukan" at Glomfjord Glomfjord, which is situated north of the polar circle, is perhaps not an obvious site for the worlds northernmost fertilizer plant, and it may come as no surprise that it took some time before fertilizer was actually produced there.
