Yara's philosophy on diversity springs from both our social and business beliefs. With a presence on all continents, the ability to embrace diversity is crucial for our development and competitiveness. Our workforce is made up of people from a wide range of cultures and experience, from which Yara can greatly benefit.
Diversity also makes good business sense. We believe in securing complementary skills sets, taking key factors such as gender, nationality, age, education and experience into the mix to build dynamic teams. The Hi Power initiative, established in 2005, is just one example of a program to make diversity work at Yara. Seminars in Oslo and Paris have been held and attended by top management with diversity networks established in several units.
Our outlook on diversity is based on non-discrimination rather than promotion of specific groups. We believe that a diverse workforce creates a richer working environment, provides the wider stimuli that results in creativity, and produces better leadership.
In practice, Yara supports diversity by encouraging employees to always respect their colleagues’ opinions and not be afraid to express their own thoughts and ideas. Yara will not tolerate the discrimination or harassment of any individual or group.
