On October 1, Jørgen Ole Haslestad replaced Thorleif Enger as president and CEO of Yara International. Enger stepped down after reaching his chosen retirement age of 65.

Haslestad brings a wealth of international and industrial experience to Yara. His combined knowledge of agriculture and developing industrial applications is a perfect match with the company’s product and service portfolio.

Haslestad, 57 and a native Norwegian, spent 14 years at Siemens in senior executive positions around the world.  In 2001, he became Group President of Siemens' Industry Solutions Services, a group with annual turnover of about USD 12 billion. After Siemens reorganized, Haslestad became CEO of the Industry Solutions division in January 2008. He also served as a board member for both Yara and Tandberg from 2004.

The new CEO was quick to claim that "Yara must continue its growth strategy. The company has many exciting opportunities to pursue, for instance when it comes to the environment, where we contribute to better balance in agricultural development and deliver some interesting industrial solutions to environmental problems."
