Agri acquired Adubos Trevo in Brazil and a controlling stake in Kynoch, South Africa. Turnaround and consolidation of the company. Hydro decided to list Agri on the Oslo Stock Exchange.
In the autumn of 1999, Hydro's management announced that the company's new strategy would be to develop the two main areas: Aluminium and Oil and Energy. The company's Agri business was not returning satisfactory results and was told that it needed to make radical improvements.
In 2000, Hydro and AECI, a local chemicals company, agreed to produce and sell fertilizer in South Africa on a joint venture basis.
At the end of the 1990s, Hydro Agri started to improve its position in the Brazilian fertilizer market, buying two new blending plants in addition to two plants already acquired.
Nov. 28, 2003, is one of the most significant dates in the first century of the company's history: The announcement by Hydro to demerge the fertilizer business, at the time known as Hydro Agri.
