Sales office opened in Stockholm. Sales began in the USA focusing on Calcium nitrate for fruit and vegetable cash crops. Agency established in San Francisco, California. The Glomfjord plant opened. It used hydroelectric power to upgrade ammonia to calcium nitrate and NPK (1949).

    The German Wehrmacht capitulated on May 8, 1945. Hydro's managing director, Bjarne Eriksen, was in a German prison officially as an officer, but in reality as a political prisoner. Eriksen was eager to return home and get back to work as soon as possible.

  • A "new Rjukan" at Glomfjord

    Yara Glomfjord Norway

    Glomfjord, which is situated north of the polar circle, is perhaps not an obvious site for the world's northernmost fertilizer plant, and it may come as no surprise that it took some time before fertilizer was actually produced there.
